NHL Ginger Favorite Connor Brown Scores 100th Goal

Edmonton Oilers forward Connor Brown hit a career-defining milestone Monday night, scoring his 100th NHL goal with

a perfectly executed one-timer against Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. For Brown, now in his 10th season, this moment wasn’t just a personal triumph—it was a testament to resilience and resurgence.

The goal, his sixth of the season, brought his 2023-24 campaign total to 13 points. That already surpasses his numbers from last season, where he managed only four goals and 12 points during a challenging comeback from an ACL tear. Now, it feels like the ginger sniper is finally finding his groove in Edmonton.

The Long Road Back

Brown’s first season with the Oilers was defined more by recovery than production. After joining the team last year, expectations were high that he’d deliver dependable depth scoring. Instead, the lingering effects of a torn ACL kept him from fully integrating into the lineup.

It wasn’t until the latter part of the season that Brown started to find his footing. His first goal as an Oiler earned him a standing ovation at Rogers Place, and he closed the year with four goals and seven points in the final 17 games. He followed that with a solid playoff performance, notching two goals and six points, but something still seemed missing.

This Season Feels Different

Fast forward to this season, and Brown looks like a player transformed. While his shot rates remain similar to last year, the goals are finally coming, and with them, a new level of confidence. His defensive game, already a strong point, has also improved. Key metrics such as expected goal share and high-danger scoring chance share have seen noticeable upticks.

"I feel good," Brown said after Monday’s game. "It’s obviously nice when they go in. I’ve got some good looks, some good passes, so I feel like I’m building as well, just trying to get better and better."

His numbers back that up. Brown is averaging 0.19 goals per game and 0.42 points per game this season, right in line with his career averages. All this despite playing fewer minutes than in past seasons.

Why Edmonton Feels Like Home

Brown’s commitment to Edmonton goes beyond stats. After last season, he signed a one-year, $1-million deal, choosing to stay with the team despite having other options.

"This is where I want to be," he said. "I think my heart’s here. Everything that we went through together, on top of that, just the fans and the patience they showed me—it’s a really special place to play."

That mutual loyalty is starting to pay dividends. With the Oilers still seeking consistent depth scoring, Brown’s resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time.

Looking Ahead

If Brown continues at this pace, he’ll not only help shore up Edmonton’s secondary scoring but also solidify his role as a key contributor to the team’s success. For a player who’s battled adversity and come out stronger, hitting the 100-goal milestone is just the beginning of what could be a career-defining season.

For now, Connor Brown is proving that patience, hard work, and a little ginger grit can go a long way—both on the ice and in the hearts of Oilers fans.
